Manual for journalists on Media and Information Literacy

“Manual for journalists on Media and Information Literacy” is the latest manual produced in the area of media literacy. The purpose of this online manual is to provide practical guidelines on how to best approach school children that want to learn about media and information policy. In this context, the manual addresses topics such as what is media literacy, what is its purpose, how journalists can interact with students and teachers, along with practical examples and case studies related to media literacy. The manual is authored by Dr. Radmila Rangelov Jusovic and Nedim Krajisnik, and is intended as a contribution for journalists that will participate in a tour of training sessions and lectures in high school in Albania, focusing on topics related to media and information literacy. The manual provides potential topics that journalists can introduce to children in relation to media literacy and various methods on how to approach this group. Topics are related to the work done by journalists and their role in society, but also focusing on specific media-related exercises, such as news dissection, writing and editing news skills, the importance of facts and fact-checking, judging on accuracy of information, what makes good interviews, etc. The handbook is prepared in the framework of the regional project “Media for Citizens – Citizens for Media” – project of seven CSOs for development of media in the Western Balkans (Media Center Sarajevo Foundation, Albanian Media Institute, Macedonian Media Institute, Media Institute of Montenegro, Novi sad School of Journalism, Ljubljana Peace Institute and Media Professionalism Network (SEENPM), aimed at strengthening the capacity of CSOs to promote initiatives related to MIL. The project is funded by the European Union.
