Training Course: Information Disorder- Fact Checking

In the framework of the Project “Towards improved labor relations and professionalism in the Albanian Media”, supported by European Union, the Albanian Media Institute organized on December 4-6 , 2019, the training course “Information Disorder- Fact Checking”. Participants included journalists from mainstream media in the country, media trainers, expert and lecturers of the Department of Journalism. Trainer of the course was Melanie Radue, Research and Teaching Assistant, Department of Mass Communication, Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nuremberg, specialized in Globalization and Mass Communication, Media Freedom and Democracy – a Comparative Perspective, Media Systems in Transition, (New) Media and Political Participation (in Authoritarian Contexts) etc.

The course was focused on topics such as the role “fake news” in times of post-truth politics ; Truth, trust and journalism; Consequences of ‘information disorder’ for journalism and democracy; Different forms of information disorder and their dissemination; Disinformation/Misinformation/Mal-Information; Transformation of the News Industry and virality of dis/misinformation; Ex-post and ante-hoc fact checking; Social Media verification: professional fact checking (websites); Hands-on fact checking 101; Covering ‘fake news’ and countering “information disorder” (DER SPIEGEL Dokumentation fact checking and the Relotius fraud case as an example).

This was the second course in a series of training courses on current challenges of journalism that AMI will organize during this project.
